Dr. Sheaffer has a special interest in Cosmetic and Family Dentistry. He attends state, dental seminars on a regular basis, where he focuses on adopting the very latest equipment and techniques to best serve you.
Among his special awards are Masters and Fellowship recognitions from the Academy of General Dentistry, which recognize his achievements in continuing education in the specialties of dentistry. As an Advisor in Advanced Restorative Dentistry for the Lancaster Seattle Study Club, he helps guides learning for other dentists. At the prestigious L.D. Pankey Institute, he completed four levels of advanced studies. Dr. Sheaffer is a member of the Lancaster County Dental Society, where he has held several offices, including president. He is also a member of the Pennsylvania Dental Society, the American Dental Society, and the courtesy staff of the Lancaster General Hospital. In 2001, Dr. Sheaffer was recognized in the U.S. Army News for his trip to Haiti, where he and his son practiced dentistry at clinics operated by Catholic and Baptist church groups. On the mission, he treated local patients and assisted his son in the operating room of the Army Field Hospital.
Dr. Sheaffer's undergraduate studies were at Franklin and Marshall College. He earned his dental degree from the University of Pennsylvania, while simultaneously completing an externship at the Coatesville hospital. Following graduation, he was stationed in Vietnam and commanded the Dental Clinic at Camp Eagle, assigned to the 101st Airborne Division. He received the Bronze Star for meritorious service.
John and his wife Sharon live west of New Holland on the family homestead. Their three children are grown. Chris, their oldest son, is an endodontist in Raleigh, North Carolina; Aaron works and lives in Anchorage; their daughter, Laura, will join the practice in 2008.
Dr. Sheaffer has served his community as president of the local Rotary Club, a member of the local school board, and chair of numerous committees at his church.
